Special Effects Makeup Artist?

Ok, I just turned 18. I am sure to start thinking about jobs. My family told me I should go for something practical. But I want a career, not a mediocre job. So I wanted to do something that makes me happy. Movies Horror is my life, I enjoy working with makeup too. So I thought my job would be ideal as a special effects makeup artist. But I no idea where to start. Like what classes I even need to take. I guess the regular classes in a school of beauty would be of no help. But I can not exactly re-locating to Los Angeles or the United Kingdom. But I live in Wilmington, North Carolina, where many movies are filmed. I recently found a place not too far from my studio which is a special effects makeup. While It's something I modivate. But I have no idea of ​​how to learn is all I need to know. Thus, any information on this is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
